A DRINK OFFERING TO THE LORD

-BIBLE VERSE-

1 Chronicles 11: 15 – 19

“Now three of the thirty captains went down to the rock to David, into the cave of Adullam; and the host of the Philistines encamped in the valley of Rephaim. And David was then in the hold, and the Philistines’ garrison was then at Bethlehem. And David longed, and said, Oh that one would give me drink of the water of the well of Bethlehem, that is at the gate! And the three brake through the host of the Philistines, and drew water out of the well of Bethlehem, that was by the gate, and took it, and brought it to David: but David would not drink of it, but poured it out to the LORD, And said, My God forbid it me, that I should do this thing: shall I drink the blood of these men that have put their lives in jeopardy? For with the jeopardy of their lives they brought it. Therefore he would not drink it. These things did these three mightiest.”

God wants you to provide Him with a drink offering. What is a drink offering? A drink offering is something that satisfies the heart of God.

These three men were sensitive to the king’s need. The king yearned and longed to drink from the water of Bethlehem. These three men were ready to pour out their lives as drink offerings to ensure that their king had water to drink. God showed them mercy and were able to bring the water to David. David did not drink it. He poured it to God as a drink offering. The mindset of the three men distinguished them from other people.

The Lord needs people who will pour out their lives to Him as drink offerings. The time has come for you to pour out your life to God as a drink offering. It will be of benefit to you and to the kingdom of God when you offer yourself as a drink offering to the Lord. Being strong to run the race that is set before you, is not just for your own convenience. God wants your life to be a drink offering to Him. Perhaps God has seen that you are devoted to Him but have not come to this high level of consecration that requires you to pour out your life to Him as a drink offering. God is giving you the opportunity right now. Maybe He has seen some level of sacrifices in you that are not enough. He wants you to take one further step of obedience. You are near to God’s heart. He wants you to respond to His call by giving out your life to Him as a drink offering. The time has come for your life to go into the dimension of pleasing God. Offer your life to God as a drink offering.

THE COUNSEL OF HIS WILL

  -BIBLE VERSES-

"In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of Him who worketh all things after the counsel of His own will" (Ephesians 1:11).

"And he said, The God of our fathers hath chosen thee, that thou shouldest know His will, and see that Just One, and shouldest hear the voice of His mouth" (Acts 22:14-15).

With love, we are called out by God to occupy a unique place in the counsel of His heart. This applies to all who are in the process of being conformed to the image and purpose of the Lord Jesus Christ. One of the major problems we face in our walk and growth in the Christian faith, is the inability to understand our Father's own counsel. This relates to His eternal will for each of us.

Many of us are living without any revelation of God's purpose. Others exist merely as human beings-just 'beings' with little or no relationship to our Father's will . Yet we see that everything the Lord has created under heaven has a particular purpose behind it. There is always a reason, a counsel or a plan for everything God does.

The counsel of God reveals what He has determined to bring to fulfillment for the satisfaction of His own heart, and our part in it. Thus according to the kind intention of His own heart, He has plainly disclosed Himself to us. May we seek His counsel for our lives and to fit into His eternal purpose for which we have been chosen.

THE SUSTAINED SPIRIT OF PRAYERS

“I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men” (1 Timothy 2:1).

God wants us to have a sustained prayer life and experience. The desire of God is not that we should be prayer warriors when we are pushed to the wall. God’s desire is not that we should be people that would be crushed before we realize the need for prayers. God’s intention has been to help us to have a sustained spirit of prayers and experience.

We can have a sustained spirit of prayers, not only at a time we are pressed or pushed to the wall; not only at a time of crisis; nor at a time of calamities alone, but at all times available to us. The desire of God for us is that we pray all the time and equally trust Him. Our Lord Jesus should be our prayer model; His life was characterized by prayer, whether in time of crisis or not. Those prayers were not only offered at the time of calamities but even before calamities came, He prayed without ceasing.

That should be the attitude that ought to characterize our prayer life. Prayer should not be done once in a while. It should be a continuous spiritual exercise. God wants us to be trained to have a continuous prayer life throughout our Christian faith. We should encourage each other to take note of this, because it will also serve as a point of training for us to go on with the Lord Jesus as His disciples, to His honour and glory.

AN ENCOUNTER WITH THE GOD OF GLORY

-BIBLE VERSES-

“And he said, Brethren and fathers, listen: The God of glory appeared to our father Abraham when he was in Mesopotamia, before he dwelt in Haram” (Acts 7:2, NKJV).

What God intends to do in our lives first and foremost, is to bring us to the point where every one of us will have a divine encounter. The starting point is beholding Jesus the way He reveals Himself to us. Every work of grace is built on the foundation of this encounter. When we encounter the Lord, we will not remain the same any more.

God will not leave us stagnant without building for us a strong foundation. Therefore, it is His will to see us as His people who have had an encounter with Him in a definite way.

Now the Bible says that the God of glory appeared to our father Abraham. Whenever God appears to an individual, there is a strong reason for that. When He calls or appears to us, He has a strong burden in His heart that He wants to discharge! As we faithfully labour and walk with Him, He will accomplish that purpose.

Before God brought Abraham out of Mesopotamia, the first thing He did was to appear to him as the God of glory. The same God that appeared to Abraham also appeared to Saul of Tarsus. “… Brother Saul, the Lord, even Jesus, that appeared unto thee in the way …” (Acts 9:17)
